A Sunday Shelfie

I love the original built-ins in this home! They were one of the selling features for me because I love the scallop details. When styling shelves, I try to use the “groups of three” rule, but I really just play with it until I like the look. I try to balance the color and the finishes of the things using asymmetry but with symmetry. Haha!

I am a maximalist for sure. So while some people might see clutter, I see people. These shelves are chock full of pictures of people I love and items that belonged to them. Every detail has a bit of sentimentality to it — the silhouettes of my first nephew and niece, the photos of me with each of them the day they were born, the brass pineapples that were my mama’s, the “Value of Friend” needlepoint poem that was my grandmother’s, all of her blue and white pieces and other photos of my family, including my favorite one of me and my daddy when I was a little girl.

All of it seems to mesh together well; yet, it never feels finished. I play and move things all the time because my story is changing all the time. And that’s what styling is — telling the “story of you” with your things!
