Garden Dreaming
When I bought my house, I inherited a yard and garden that was once certainly beautiful in its day. Mrs. Lucia — the lady of the house for 70 years — was a gardener. But for the last several years (+), she couldn’t care for it like she once did. It was a bit of a mess when I first saw it.
The first thing I did was have a lot of the overgrowth removed along the back property line so that I could add a fence for the dogs. It already looked better! Since then, I have worked on removing invasive things like wisteria and English ivy (a never-ending chore). I cut back the leggy azaleas to give them a fresh start. I wanted to see what popped up during the spring and summer to see what I have and want to keep. It’s now ready to start building back and is kind of a blank slate. I’m so excited! Here is what it looks like today.
Now the fun part! I plan to add some of the foundation things this fall like shrubs and trees. Then in the spring I can add some perennials. Hopefully it will be off to a great start! I have been collecting inspiration, and my favorite sources are some great Instagram accounts.
