Mixing Old and New

I have a lot of beloved heirloom furniture pieces that I inherited from my mama and grandmothers. Many of the pieces are not terribly extravagant or valuable, but they have sentimental value. My challenge has always been to use them in my home in a way that honors their past but also honors my style and aesthetic. I have found that the easiest way that I can do this is add something new in the space that ties both worlds together. Now, I don’t really like truly new things. Even the new things I buy often look old. But, textiles are often my method to bridge the gap. When I started decorating the dining room in my new house, I was excited to find ways to compliment my grandmother’s dining set and chandelier that I removed from her home before we sold it. I wanted custom looking drapes without the custom price. I am so pleased with these I found on Wayfair that I hung on the Ballard Designs acrylic and brass rods. And, to compliment the chandelier, I added Amazon black shades. I love how the dining room is shaping up!
