Limelight Season

It’s limelight season! It’s time to snip and dry your limelight hydrangeas and arrange in vases for fall. The limelights in this current photo of my formal living room are actually from last year. I planted some at my new home, but I didn’t want to rob them of all their blooms. I like how they dry on the stem and add some winter interest to the yard.
Interested in drying your own limelights? James Farmer has a great tutorial in his saved stories on how to do this. You’ll have to look back into his saved highlights, but it’s worth the search. But it really is so easy — simply snip when they’re lime green and drying out (and make a rustling sounds when you tap the blooms) and then just arrange in the vase to let them dry naturally! Some of your petals may have browned a little due to sunburn, so look for stems that are mostly lime and barely starting to dry. You can always snip away some of the browning petals.
I typically do this every year about this time to have for my fall mantel and other areas of the house for the autumn season. I love the tradition!
